Juan Manuel Marquez fought Manny Pacquiao on December 8, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was the fourth fight in the rivalry. The third fight was decided by a controversial decision favoring Pacquiao. Manny was coming off a loss to Timothy Bradley that summer so he was very motivated to prove himself here.

The fight was broadcast on HBO with Larry Merchant calling the action.

You could say it started with round 1, but really this was the 37th round for the two fighters.

I know most people love Pacquiao, but he was dominated in this fight.  He knocked him out cold and there really isn’t anything else you can say about it.  Sure, Manny walked into the punch.  He had done some damage up to that point by breaking Marquez’s nose and jaw.

This was a great fight and it would have been fun to see a fifth fight. Larry Merchant said it was close to being done but alas, it never came to fruition.  We are left watching this excellent fight and having it conclude an epic saga between two excellent fighters.

The crowd was obviously pro Marquez.  They were chanting his name through the entire bout.  Maybe that gave him the slight edge that he needed to win this one.  Who knows?

Why was this fight so great?  It ended with a knockout with one second remaining in the sixth round.  It was named both Fight of the Year and Knockout of the Year for 2012 by Ring Magazine.

How much did each fighter make?  A lot.  But Manny got the lions share.  He was reported to make $26 million from the fight while Marquez took home $6 million.  There were more than a million pay per view buys.
