Marquez vs Alvarado set for May 17 at LA Forum, winner to face Pacquiao-Bradley II victorPosted on
A much-discussed fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado is set for May 17, and will be held at The Forum in Inglewood, California, to be televised on HBO. The fight will have a 143-pound catchweight.
Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO) is coming off of a 12-round decision loss in October to Timothy Bradley, while Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO) was beaten down seven days later by Ruslan Provodnikov in Denver, losing the WBO junior welterweight title in what will be his final fight at that weight.
The 40-year-old Marquez tried to land a rematch with Bradley, but obviously Bradley chose to go after a bigger money fight against Manny Pacquiao, which will take place on April 12 on HBO pay-per-view. After that, and once negotiations for Marquez-Alvarado seemed to be leading to the fight we now have, Marquez said he’d softened his stance on facing Pacquiao for a fifth time, which could happen later this year.
