Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum confirmed to ESPN’s Dan Rafael that the groups of Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez have agreed to terms for a bout in September or October, while Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao is slated to fight Mike Alvarado or Brandon Rios “in the fall in Asia.”

Marquez-Bradley had been rumored last week, when the Mexican Marquez told ESPN Deportes Radio that he was leaning towards the American Bradley.

It looks like Manny Pacquiao is now left without a marquee opponent for this fall when he returns to the boxing ring. According to ESPN Deportes, two of Pacquiao’s most likely opponents will be facing each other. Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley have apparently agreed to meet at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on September 14.

Most boxing fans wanted to see a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez this fall, but that will not happen if he’s fighting Timothy Bradley instead. It may happen sometime in 2014, but certainly not this year.

Over the weekend, Arum told BoxingScene.com that if things didn’t work out with Marquez and Pacquiao that he had other options for Juan. Yet, Arum contradicts himself in his most recent comments about this fight. According to a March 4th report by The Manila Standard, Arum made the following comments:

“I don’t make alternate plans. I’m confident both will agree to fight each other.”

Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez currently find themselves in a very interesting position. Both men have to fight one another because no other potential opponents make sense at this point, but admitting that indisputable fact means surrendering negotiating power.
